drylin® W linear rail for smooth gliding

drylin® W linear rails were developed to promote design flexibility and quick assembly in both single and double rail configurations. All drylin® W linear rails are equipped with iglide® high-performance polymer liners, significantly reducing friction and extending service life. Both clear anodized and hard anodized versions are available, as well as stainless steel. Round, square and curved rails are all available with multiple variants of assemblies and pillow blocks compatible for each shape.

drylin® W linear bearings have numerous advantages over comparable ball bearing systems. The iglide® plastic lining generates up to four times less noise than metal bearings thanks to a lower coefficient of friction. They are also dry-running, removing the need for grease or other external lubricants which can cause dirt and dust adhesion when used. drylin® bearings can perform consistently in dirty or dusty environments with no maintenance necessary.

Benefits:
  • A wide variety of single and double rails
    • Single rails provide flexibility for their customized solution
    • Double rails facilitate assembly and reduce the risk of misalignment
  • Anodized aluminum or 316 (1.4571) stainless steel
  • A wide variety of carriage assembly options (single and double rail)
  • Self-lubricating and maintenance-free
  • quiet operation
  • Up to 40% more cost-effective than recirculating ball bearings

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

  • What material options are available for drylin® W?

drylin® W pillow blocks can be made from the following materials: cast zinc, aluminum, and 300SS. The liner materials available with these pillow blocks are: iglide® J, J200, X, E7, A160, and A180. The available rail profiles can be produced from 6060-T66 or 6063-T6 with available finishes of clear, hard, or black anodization. Additionally, we offer drylin® W in 316SS or carbon fiber.

  • What are the available lengths of drylin® W rails?

We cut each rail to length to the nearest whole millimeter, per customer specifications. Our current standard cutting capabilities hold a tolerance of +/- 2mm. They can be as short as 100mm and up to the maximum length of each profile. The typical maximum lengths of our drylin® W rails are either 3m or 4m depending on the profile.

  • How do I size my linear rail system? How long will it last? What are the maximum loads and speeds?

igus® has unique online configuration tools to assist in selecting the best system size for your application needs. The configuration tools use thousands of hours of real-world testing data from our test lab in Germany. We provide information including required drive force and safety factors of the system, as well as lifetime expectancy of our liners.

  • Is custom machining available?

igus® can offer customer machined options for both your rails and carriages. Please send us a technical drawing and the desired quantities and we will gladly provide a quote.

  • Is drylin® W good for hand-powered applications?

drylin® W is great for hand-powered applications. drylin® W systems can also be paired with a handle and lead screw, such as in our SLW series of linear actuators. Additionally, we can accommodate applications outside of the 2:1 rule with our hybrid roller designs.

  • What are the differences between round rail and square rail?

Our square and round rails are both widely available in a range of sizes. Our square rails are ideal for applications with high static loads, or applications requiring a long service life as the square rail has more surface contact between rail and liner. Our round rail is available in a wider range of material options and pillow block designs for a larger combination of fit and feel for your application. Learn more with our infographic.

  • What carriage design options are available?

igus® offers a variety of carriage options to meet the demands of your application. Our liners can have turn-to-fit clearance, spring preload, hybrid roller design, interference fit, twin pillow blocks, and more.

  • How do I replace liners?

The drylin® W profile offers a quick-change carriage design which allows you to replace the liners without ever taking the pillow block off of the rail. Watch this video for a step-by-step guide.

  • Is drylin® W interchangeable with ball bearing systems?

drylin® W systems are dimensionally replaceable with T style carriages, as they use similar mounting hole patterns and stack heights.

  • What options are available for hygienic environments or FDA compliance?

igus® offers liner materials that are FDA-compliant for the food and packaging industries. Our rails are also made from 316SS, making them well suited for caustic washdown environments. Hygienic designs are continuing to be developed as industry demands increase.

  • How do I align rails?

drylin® W is offered in single and dual extrusions. Single drylin® W rails should be aligned using the following guide: Aligning Rails 101. For dual extrusions rails only one rail should be used, and parallelism is already accounted for in the design of the rail.

  • Does igus® offer miniature drylin® W systems?

We do offer miniature sizes of drylin® W, having a rail diameter of either 6mm or 10mm. These are offered in both single and double extrusions and with a square or round rail profile.
